would love opinions on this topic of mine
« on: September 13, 2012, 09:39:48 PM »
Hello everybody. I am new to this chatroom or website in general. Actually to be perfectly honest I dont have a specific religion and I havent for many years. I was baptized morman, but i do not follow the morman rules. I believe there is a GOD and he is greater then me but I also believe that no one is in any position to tell me how to live my life. theres all these bibles and rules and regulations on life it seems that all these people are just simply trying to brain wash all of you. and so far they have succeeded a great deal. but they still have not convinced me that sinning will result in me going to hell. I believe that life we know it is hell right in front of our eyes beneath our feet. we walk the streets of hell. so from here no matter what i do bad or good, i know god will be waiting for me for when its my time to leave this place and go to him. now i know many of you would think my way of thinking is not the right way. but its what i believe. now my reason for joining this chat room id love to see some of your view points on religion and why you think following steps in a book preached to you in a man that says he serves god is the "right thing to do"? xoxoxo -nessa

qv,
I appreciate your honesty, and even in disagreement I can recognize your right to choose.

First, I want to say I am not pretentious enough to think that this world and it's goings on are all about ME and that whatever I think is true just because it's what I think.  There are things that are much greater than I.

This world is a miracle of cyclical systems that can only be contributed to an intelligent design.  Just one example I see is that trees take in carbon dioxide and produce oxygen ; we take in oxygen and produce carbon dioxide.  I can't believe that was an accidental happening from a mutated cell.  Another is the miraculous clockwork-like precision of a single atom, or for that matter the nucleus inside the atom of each cell in our bodies.

While it seems we agree that there is a God, the question remains how can we know that God, or trust Him or follow his guidelines.  Most worldwide religions believe in some god - nature almost screams it.  Most agree that goodness is the optimal goal, and  we should appreciate that nature.  The difference is forgiveness.

I concede that God is a being with much more knowledge than I.  The created is never more intelligent than the creator (thus its not all about ME). It makes sense that God is truthful and trustworthy, because anything else would make him "not" God by definition.  -Consequently He is also just (as in justice - His boundaries must remain the same.
The Bible was inspired through God's influence to certain writers in order that we can know Him, because he wishes for his created to love him back and have a relationship.  The Bible tells us that His plan was to give us choice.  It makes sense that to force us to love Him would make us puppets.... He chooses that love should be freely given.  Choice was made and sin entered our world.  Yet GOd had compassion and provided a way of forgiveness.
The influence of this world is so overwhelming that we could never be good enough to live in the presence of a holy pure God.   Therefore God (choosing to satisfy the consequences of sin with sacrifice) sent a part of himself - Jesus who could understand how it was to be a man but also part of God - to be our sacrifice for all generations.  The Bible says if we simply accept and agree that Christ is the way, we can have the gift of eternal life with God --- cleansed of our sins by the only one who has the power to do that, the pure sinless God.
God tells us that one of his eternal beings, an angel, also made a sin choice.  Hell was then created as an eternal prison for these fallen angels and not meant for humanity.  However, we are told that we condemn ourselves (eternal separation from God in a spiritual afterlife) if we do not choose God's side.

Either we believe the Bible is true or we don't... there's no picking and choosing. Mainly because life is not all about "us."

Lastly, Please understand that this is a Christian-based site.
I hope that you are able to respect the mutual beliefs that this site was created to honor and our fellowship based on that understanding; as I respect your right to choose.

i'm kind of in agreement with you. on the 29th nov this year i had my personal experience with god after praying for him to come into my life since then i feel he is trying to show me his true message. so far i believe it to be near what you say. nobody should try and tell you how to live your life and god doesn't do that either. i haven't even been given the chance yet to talk to anyone about my experience and would love to share it so if you feel like a chat get in touch my name is dean and even though i have recently found god i feel alone so please do get in touch
